You’re stuck in a market you no longer want to be in. You want to explore a brand-new-to-you clientele. But how do you even begin to target a whole new market?
You’ve found your niche, now you’re ready to show that YOU are the expert, but wait… you need to take the very first step: content content content.
You decided to turn this photography-hobby-thing into a real business, so now what? Where to begin?
Your wheels are spinning & you’re on auto-pilot, you need to freshen up and find your spark again.
You can think of a Styled Shoot as your very first stop of this road-trip we call our businesses. It’s the root of creating content that is uniquely yours and designed to target your absolute dream client/location.
You may not notice it from the “outside” — but most of your favorite, popular photographers started their business or shifted into a new market by showcasing mostly solely styled shoots on social media. Bet you couldn’t even tell? And now they’ve transformed their businesses and are getting THOSE bookings.
On average, the statistics of planning a styled shoot can account for 80 hours worth of work (That’s TWO full work weeks - two full week’s of your salary).
- down to as little as 10 hours worth of work. To get down to the nitty gritty — let’s say you pay yourself a salary of $2k/week — we’re saving you 70 hours worth of work, that’s $3,600 (per styled shoot!) that we’re saving you right off the bat. Talk about a fool-proof return on your investment, eh?
Let me start off by saying, the first styled shoot I ever put together for myself was ..well not great to say the least but it was a start. I rented a lace dress, made a little a-frame arch, put together a simple bouquet, and talked two friends into modeling for me down in a field I’m pretty sure were really marsh lands! Next I did the same thing visiting home in California - I talked my cousin, her husband and their two friends into going on a small local hike, doing a little mock elopement and sunset photos. I just needed some content, anything to get me started until I learned other people hosted styled shoot - honestly with hot models, in dope locations and I was like sign me up! Here’s the thing though, that worked …until I really discovered the couples, the styling, the lack of storytelling I was getting from those styled shoots - wasn’t going to get me anything more than pretty pictures on social media and my website. I wanted more for my business, I wanted more for my clients and I needed them to see who I was as a creative and that I was able to creative stories they could see themselves in. That's when I circled back to where I started, but this time I was more experienced, knew exactly who my ideal client was and what my purpose was creating my next styled shoot for my brand. I reached out to like-minded vendors for attire, details and services. I found real couples, with real unique love stories and planned out a mock full-day elopement with all the things I knew my ideal couples would fall in love with. That is truly when my business went from booking 6/8 hour elopements to All Day elopements and Multi-Day elopements in the most beautiful locations, with couples who are the freaking coolest and VALUE everything that I have to offer.
This is why I feel so passionate about styled shoots, I know exactly what they’ve done for my business and I know that this is without a doubt what they can do for others.
Attending my very first styled shoot almost 5 years ago was the turning point in my business. After shooting years of traditional weddings, I attended an adventure-wedding styled shoot across the country. I absolutely fell in love with the idea of adventure weddings & knew I needed a big shift in my business.
As I was looking to break into the elopement + adventure wedding industry, the one goal of mine was able to curate a highly niched portfolio - and for me that was obtained by creating styled shoots. My goal during these styles shoots was to create a story for each of these couples - stories that will resonate with couples who don’t feel that a traditional wedding is for them. I spent months shooting over 10 styled shoots all across the country, leaving me with a full portfolio to begin to market with and showcase on my web presence and social media.
Within 6 months of consistently marketing with my styled shoot content, I began to see consistent inquiries rolling in for my absolute dream bookings. And within 12 months, I had a full wedding season booked out with solely adventure elopements + small weddings. I was getting bookings in my desired locations with couples that desired to have the wedding days that I loved to document.
A little “win” story that I always love to share — my VERY first destination wedding was actually booked directly from the very first styled shoot I ever attended (the one I mentioned earlier). The couple modeling re-shared my behind the scenes video on Instagram — which caught the eye of their friends, who reached out to me + ultimately ended up booking their adventure destination wedding (my very first!!). That was a huge win for me - talk about a direct return on my investment!

I’m Kasey, the founder of a company established in 2013, called Elope with Kasey Jo, an Adventure Elopement & Wedding Photography company based in Upstate NY. My team and I guide our couples through the elopement planning process & document their best day ever.
In 2019, my secondary company, Elope Academy, was brought to life. Elope Academy (formerly Elope East Coast) hosts international & domestic multi-day workshops & content days for creatives looking to dive into the elopement world through epic portfolio-building shoots & education.
Both of my brands were born out of the necessity of wanting to see the concept of adventure elopements thrive and grow where the concept of “eloping” is still up and coming.

We want to be able to provide something to the creative industry to expand your own knowledge and provide you with the proper tools and a step-by-step roadmap to be able to do all of that and more.
